Summer, sunny weather, high temperatures – on such days our appetite for ice-cream delicacies is the biggest. Because there is nothing better than ice-cream, available in many flavours and combinations, when it comes to refreshment. Where it is worth going to get some ice-cream in the capital? In Warsaw streets, you come across ice-cream parlours and cafes which serve ice-cream made according to their own, unique recipes at every turn. We recommend the best, in our opinion, six ice-cream parlours which will guarantee your palate a true ice-cream feast.
Lody U Hodunia (9 Nowomiejska) is a cult ice-cream parlour located in the Old Town. Some claim that it is the best in this area. The owners offer many flavours. Our attention was drawn particularly by two of them: cedar and gianduja. Apart from typical ice-cream in a cone, you can order a dessert. On hot days, people stand in long lines, but it is worth waiting a moment to taste the delicious dense ice-cream offered U Hodunia.
Malinova (130 Al.Niepodległości) is our next recommendation. This ice-cream parlour has no match. It is a place of a pre-war tradition, based on the highest quality, natural ingredients. You will not feel any ‘modifications’. The offer includes many, many flavours. All of them are great, but pistachio with nut pieces is our favourite one! In Malinova, apart from ice-cream in a cone, in a container, or a takeaway in a special thermal package, you can also order ice-cream desserts with various additions, fantastic coffee (we recommend it with ice-cream), tea and other drinks. A quite spacious and bright place makes it possible to enjoy a dessert at one of the tables, but most people in summer go for the benches in front of the parlour.
When it comes to Lody Na Patyku [Ice Lollies], we love them for their fabulous shapes, decorations and colourful glazes. They taste as good as they look and, what is more, are based on traditional recipes. You can get ice lollies in various spots in Warsaw, in O Obrotach Ciał Niebieskich (4 Leszczyńska), Warszawa Powiśle (3b Kruczkowskiego), Plażowa (by Poniatowski Bridge) or Brooklyn Burgers & Wings Warsaw (36 Nowy Świat and 18 Jana Pawła II), among others. They are completely new quality on the “ice-cream market”. Really worth trying!
Amazing ice-cream desserts can also be ordered in Saska Kępa. Akwarium (50/9 Francuska), a cocktail bar, is an inconspicuous place which win ice-cream lovers’ hearts over. What is in there to brag about? The answer is: the best selected ingredients and original Italian recipes; guests of Akwarium can surely confirm that quality. You can choose from 36 flavours, including both traditional ones and those more sophisticated.
Not far away, in 30 Francuska, there is an ice-cream kiosk - Budka z Lodami - that belongs to Cukiernia Saska cafe. It is opened in summer (during winter it goes back to the cafe) and serves its customers delicious ice cream with additions based on home recipes. The owners constantly improvise when it comes to flavours that is why you can come across some interesting offers. We also recommend frozen yoghurt.
Last but not least, commonly known Italian ice-cream – Soprano ice-cream, whose flavour undoubtedly is associated with summer and seaside, from a machine. Soprano spots can be found in 31 Nowy Świat, among others.
And what are your favourite ice-cream parlours in Warsaw?
