Indian cuisine enjoys constant popularity with restaurateurs and culinary connoisseurs in Kraków. Although the number of Indian restaurants in this city is not great right now, there are places worth visiting – especially due to high-quality of those spots which have successfully welcomed residents and tourists for many years.
Indus Tandoor – the oldest Indian restaurant in Kraków
Indus has been on the culinary map of Kraków since 1998 and one of the most popular oriental restaurants in the city. It stands out among others thanks to its unique stylish Indian interior – although it is easy to exaggerate when it comes to such a design, the place looks really good, is cosy and well-balanced in terms of decorations. Comfortable sofas next to round tables work well during outings with a group of friends.
The rich menu contains many classic dishes of Indian cuisine and encourages customers to try everything – starting from delicious appetisers, home-made roti breads, to soups, meat and vegetarian dishes. The restaurant specialises in dishes prepared in a clay oven, tandoor. Meat prepared in it is crispy on the outside and at the same time soft, melting in the mouth on the inside. In Indus, poultry and lamb dominate when it comes to meat, but vegetarians will also find something interesting – delicious, spicy vegetable and cheese stews. The wealth of flavours and aromas, as well as an unusual way of serving guarantee that visits in this restaurant are remembered for a long time.
Ganesh – elegance and aroma
The owner of the only chain restaurant with Indian food, Ganesh, decided to abandon pretentious Indian decorations and relied on an elegant design with light references to the culture of the Orient. That is why, this restaurant is a perfect choice not only for a romantic dinner but also for a business meeting.
The place, located near the Main Square, impresses with its design as well as rich menu, exquisite dishes prepared in tandoor, interesting lunch menu, long list of vegetables and meats with curry, and many, many more. Its rich offer of vegetarian dishes based on fresh vegetables, paneer cheese, Indian spices, and fresh herbs distinguish this restaurant among others. Interesting items on the menu are one-plate dishes for two. Noteworthy are also exquisite desserts typical of Indian cuisine – carrot halva, warm cheese balls in sweet syrup, and Kulfi, Indian ice cream.
Hot chili – bar version of Indian food
Those trying to find a place for a quick meal after work will surely like an inexpensive restaurant in the Old Town – Hot Chili offers delicious dishes based on traditional Indian recipes for reasonable prices. The simple bar design of the place is not very encouraging when it comes to longer meetings with friends or a dinner with your significant other, but it is perfect for a visit during lunch hours. Especially since the restaurant offers lunch sets for less than PLN 20 and free delivery. You can try here all tones of genuine Indian cuisine – you will get here dishes from all regions of India, ones prepared in tandoori stove, biriani, Chunky Chat masala, samosas, and pakoras. There are also classic Indian desserts and drinks – Mango lassi, among others. Home-made naan and roti breads are also worth the attention.
Hindus – Indian street food
Among the abovementioned restaurants, Hindus Indian definitely stands out – it is a small trailer with takeaways. It is the first, and so far the only, Indian food truck on the map of Kraków, which currently can be found in Zabłocie. For a small price, you can eat here delicious, aromatic curry – the menu gets bigger and bigger every day. Same as in India, every dish is distinguished by a certain level of spiciness, described on a simple and flexible scale from 1 to 5. What is more, every dish is available in two versions: standard (400 grams) and big (600 grams). Prices are very encouraging – despite really high quality every dish costs less than PLN 20.
