The secrets of makeup in the past
Nowadays, when almost everything can be bought, hand-made gifts become popular once more. The King Jan III’s Museum at Wilanów decided to invite adults to a three-part cycle of workshops which will allow the participants to make some hand-made Christmas presents.
Hiding flaws has been very important to women for centuries. The baroque ideal of beauty included white face, red lips, rosy cheeks and black eyebrows. The last part of the workshops will allow the participants to learn how such appearance was achieved in the 17th century. Cosmetics back then were strongly related to nature, oils, butters and waxes were used. The guests will find out about their properties and how they were provided with colours. What is more, they will have an opportunity to prepare their own mixtures in the alchemic lab. With a bit of flair and patience, desired colours are guaranteed.
