Panorama of the battle of Racławice – National Museum in Wrocław Department
Panorama of the battle of Racławice is one of the main tourist attractions in Wrocław.
This enormous painting (15 x 114 m) creates an illusion of taking people to a different reality and times thanks to special perspective and techniques. The work painted by Jan Styka, Wojciech Kossak and many other prominent artists commemorates the battle of Racławice from 1794. At first, the painting was located in Lvov. Raising the spirits, the battle of Racławice had significant importance for the enslaved nation back then. In 1946, the work was taken to Wrocław but was not displayed for almost 40 years due to political reasons. The waiting ended after the 1980 crisis. The Panorama was displayed once again on 14 June 1985. A huge attraction of old Lvov immediately became the main attraction of Wrocław.
