From the beginning of December, Wrocław has been illuminated with thousands of decorative lights, which remind us that Christmas is coming soon. The winter atmosphere of the holiday can be sensed especially on the Market Square, where the annual Christmas Market is held. Still, it is not the only place this year where you can drink delicious mulled wine, buy Christmas presents and meet Santa himself – such attractions await also in the newly opened Aleja Bielany, a shopping centre.
Christmas Market on the Market Square
Traditionally, a market full of attractions for children and adults is held on the Market Square and its vicinity around Christmas. Wooden stalls, Christmas decorations fill up the Market Square as well as Oławska and Świdnicka Streets, which are adjacent to it, from 20 November to 22 December. Wrocław Christmas Market is one of the most recognisable attractions of the capital of Lower Silesia and attracts a lot of tourists.
The Christmas Market illuminates the Market Square with numerous Christmas decorations and provides the city with the smell of Christmas trees, aromatic chocolate gingerbread and mulled wine. You can try the most delicious Christmas cakes with spicy aroma as well as buy some unique local products from different countries to enrich your Christmas Eve supper. What is more, beautiful hand-made gifts and souvenirs from Wrocław, which make great presents for friends or relatives, are really eye-catching.
The Market is also a huge attraction for the little ones. They will surely enjoy the Fable Forest with amazing audiovisual effects and classic Polish fables. It contains special fable huts, each of which hides a unique story and allows for taking a photo. What is more, some special events for children are going to take place: meetings with Santa, a Christmas parade, ice-sculpting show, procession of carollers and Christmas carols concert.
A detailed schedule of the event is available on the website of the Market: http://www.jarmarkbozonarodzeniowy.com/
Market in Aleja Bielany
Aleja Bielany, a recently opened shopping centre, joins the Christmas Market tradition. Held partially outdoors and partially inside the shopping centre, the Market is going to be held from 4 till 23 December. Apart from an opportunity to buy some unique craft decorations, souvenirs and regional food, some free attractions, including a merry-go-round, 15-metre high big wheel and photo with reindeers, await. On 6 December, children are going to have an opportunity to meet Santa and have a photo taken for free.
Spicy coffee, hot tea, mulled wine
Also restaurants, cafes and pubs care about Christmas atmosphere – many of them offer a special winter menu, including infusions, coffee, mulled wine or beer with cinnamon or ginger aroma.
