Gala

The Polish premiere of the performance under the Body/Mind Festival. This is a project combining professional and amateur dancers and it blurs the lines between failure and success in performance as it suggests that theater is community, both onstage and off. The Warsaw Gala is another rendition of the performance originally prepared in 2015 with the residents of the Parisian suburbs and recreated in a number of other cities since then. The main principle stays the same – there are 20 performers selected among local residents, this time of Warsaw. Professional actors as well as ballet and contemporary dance performers stand side by side with amateurs, whose social backgrounds, age and life experiences are as diversified as possible, in order to form a democratic community which for a couple of days is joined together by dance without any limits.

Around Body-Opera Performing Europe season 1

What is an opera installation and why is it still worth composing operas even though nobody sings in them? Why is the body important when listening to the music? Can one hear and feel sounds through the bones or skin? Does our body become trapped, ignored and restricted to a pair of active ears when going to a philharmonic? While showing around Body-Opera, Wojtek Blecharz will try to answer those and other questions. He will attempt to explain why this opera requires one hundred yoga mats, one hundred pillows, one hundred loudspeakers and eight hundred meters of cables.
