Premiere at Teatr Polonia
Teatr Polonia invites everyone for Eugene Ionesco’s “The Chairs” directed by Piotr Cieplak, translated by Jan Kosiński
The two main characters of the play – the Old Man and Old Woman – spend their time by inviting imagined guests and preparing extra chairs for them. The married couple hold vivid discussions with them. They do it mainly to get rid of boredom in their existence, reduce fears and fill the void in their life. Ionesco’s play is about us, about life, doubts, bilateral games and love. The characters are funny and tragic at the same time. Despite a bitter undertone, the life of the Old Man and Old Woman is full of warm melancholy and affection. They slowly start to accept themselves and their limitations. The Chairs directed by Piotr Cieplak is a touching play full of excellent sense of humour which does not leave the audience indifferent. A play worth recommending.
