Japanese tragedy in three acts by Giacomo Puccini and with libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica. It's a story about man who is rich, handsome and hungry for ever new erotic conquests and a beautiful, poor, madly in love woman. This may sound trivial but it's a repetitive plot in opera stories that was used long before Puccini decided to write his opera. The Italian composer tossed the story into Japanese surroundings, highlighting them with references to traditional music from the Land of Cherry Blossoms.
