One of the most important literature festivals in Europe will begin on 24 October in Kraków. The festival will last a week. Throughout this period, participants will have a chance to take part in meeting with writers, listen to fantastic concerts and watch excellent films.

At the end, on 30 October, during the second Conrad Gala, we will learn who is the winner of last year’s literature debut.

This year’s motto is “Intensity”, and every day of the festival will be held under a different theme: Language, Faith and Infidelity, Emotions, Landscapes, Tensions and Senses.

This year’s special guests are:

– Richard Flanagan: an outstanding Australian writer. He has written, among other things, “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”, a book about the fate of soldiers during WWII. He has received a prestigious English literature prize – “Man Booker Prize”. Flanagan is also the co-creator of Baz Luhrman’s “Australia”.

– Michael Cunnigham: an American who has written the book “The Hours”, inspired by the biography of Virginia Woolf. Thanks to this work, he has received the Pulitzer Prize. The film adaption of this book features such stars as Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Julian Moore. Cunningam’s two other novels have been adapted for the screen – “A Home at the End of the World” and “Evening”.

– Eleanor Catton: a Canadian living in New Zealand, the author of the popular novel “The Luminaries”, for which she has received the Man Booker Prize. She has also written “The Rehearsal” and tries to make her novels look like TV series.

– Géza Röhrig: a Hungarian actor, poet, writer and singer. Known for the main lead in “Son of Saul”. He was a member of a banned punk band, obtained a diploma in Bible teaching and has published a number of poetry volumes and a novel.

The full programme of the festival will be available in the first half of September.
